Christmas CardNews

Christmas greeting from the Lincs with India applaud magnificent efforts to fund the building of the girls hostel.

The new girls hostel
The January 2010 visiting group were able to see the building of the girls new hostel reach its final stages. Look out shortly for an account of the ceremony, celebrations and pictures from the visitors. We await news of the hostel being brought into use to accommodate the supported girls. Meanwhile, after more than a year, the girls are still accommodated in the single room, a storeroom adjoining the kitchen and staffroom at Stedland. Thanks to our members and supporters - not for much longer!

Monsoon failure
Rotary funds Lincs with India to avert water crisis at stedland. Water has had to be brought into Stedland by tanker following the failure of the present borewell to produce sufficient resources. First indications were insuffient on site water for the builders of the girls hostel. Then, when the monsoon failed to produce the usual reserves, the January visitors found an impending crisis for the 75 supported children and staff at Stedland. Happily, this has been averted by the allocation of £500 through the The Rotary Club of Alford and Mablethorpe which is sufficient to sink a new borewell at Stedland. This is expected to restore an adequate supply for our children and the staff at Stedland.

John Roddam
John Roddam (Rotary Club of Lincoln Colonia) has stood down from the Committee after a four year stint in charge of fundraising during which the boys hostel at Stedland was planned and built and the girls hostel is almost in place. In recognition of John's and his Rotary Club's efforts, the girls hostel is to be named 'Rotary House' and the two wings will forever be identified with the Lincoln Colonia and their twinned club in Holland. Very many thanks John.

There will shortly be several girls whose lives will be changed if we can find sponsors for them. Could you help? Contact us for further information.
