Lincs with India Annual Chairman’s Report Report 2021

According to to-days Indian Express Newspaper there have been 4,12,262 cases in the last 24 hours and 3980 deaths.

There has been a lot of comment on the lack of oxygen and vaccine and clearly Coronvirus has had a profound effect throughout India and even at Sdetland although we are not aware of any active cases there.

Nearby in Madurai during the pandemic there have been 35,638 cases of which 29,947 recovered :5133 active cases and 558 fatal cases.

Ignatius says that there were concerns before in the previous lockdown but now they are in much fear about the pandemic . On the advice of the Child Welfare Committee some children have returned to their homes and there are 22 children now at Sdetland and in Ignatius words “I am much scared to save them”

The maintenance work to the Girls Hostel has been completed . Some of the painting in its bright colours meant the painters were using made up ladders to cover the areas.

During this year we have lost Christopher Rolph ,Don Thomas and Mrs Avril Parsons all of whom in their own special way contributed to Lincs with India.

It has the status now effective of a Hostel which means less restictions but having the choice of who should come to Sdetland and who should leave.

The Brian Memorial Hall is complete except for the windows doors and internal fittings but we have the resources from our Sponsors to cover the cost.

We are so grateful for all the support we get from the sponsors ,supporters and members of Lincs with India without whose help none of this could happen.

Work will recommence on the Memorial Hall as soon as circumstances allow and as for the next trip we hope that will be next year but realistically it may be 2023.

Press release from the Rotary Club of Alford & Mablethorpe

One of The Rotary Club of Alford & Mablethorpe long established connections is with Lincs With India, a charity that provides much needed support to a hostel in Stedland, Tamil Nadu in India that provides a home for 100 children to attend the local school.

The hostel was originally started to provide accommodation and support (food, clothing and schooling fees) for tribal children, enabling them to receive an education. From its small beginnings in a hut built on land provided by a local family, the project has grown to provide support for 100 poor children in two purpose built buildings, who otherwise would not receive an education and would be expected to work.

Members of our local Rotary Club have been and still are actively involved in this project, raising funds, mainly through sponsorships and by visits annually to support the management and children.

Our most recent club involvement has been to provide dining room equipment, enabling all the children to have a separate area where they can eat their meals together. £2,000 was raised, half from club funds and half from a matching Rotary District grant. Due to financial constraints, completion of the dining room has proven difficult but during a recent visit, club member and Chairman of Lincs with India Jim Needley was delighted to oversee the installation of the new dining room equipment in a temporary building while the final structure awaits completion. Jim said, ‘In all the times I have visited the children I have never seen them sit down at a table to have a meal as they usually have set on the floor. It’s wonderful to see their happy faces so thanks to Rotary for their help.’

We are delighted to continue our long association with Lincs with India, said Nigel Collins, the Clubs Foundation Chairman and are grateful for the support of a matching district grant which has made such a difference to the lives of the children.

It is not too soon to think of next year. Wouldn’t you like to escape the winter gloom here and be uplifted by seeing for yourself what we are doing for these children - and an unforgetable holiday to boot?

And, for those that have been before, “India; it is impossible to visit once” (Kipling)
